A few extra pounds add years to your life!!!!!

Do you know that carrying a little extra weight may actually be good for you?Studies shows that a few pounds appear to protect people from an early death.

underweight and extremely obese people die earlier than people of a normal weight, people who are slightly overweight actually live longer than those of a normal weight.

"It's not surprising that extreme underweight and extreme obesity increase the risk of dying, but it is surprising that carrying a little extra weight may give people a longevity advantage," researcher David Feeny from the Kaiser Permanente Centre for Health Research said in a statement.

But fellow researcher Mark Kaplan, professor of Community Health at Portland State University, said while a few extra pounds may protect older people as their health declines, that did not mean people of normal weight should try to add bulk.

Poverty in Kenya

Despite some positive developments, poverty in Kenya has continued to be a huge problem. One quarter and half of the population earn less than $1 US each day. Half of all rural Kenyans are living below the poverty line. That represents approximately 9 million people. The situation is not quite as bad in the urban centers, where such poverty only effects a third of the population.

Swine Flu

Barely a week after Kenya announced several austerity measures to counter the spread of the swine flu into the country, health authorities have announced that the Eastern African country does not have the capacity to test for the killer disease.

In the event of a suspected case of the flu, the country’s Influenza Centre at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) says the specimen would have to be flown to the World Health Organization laboratories in Atlanta, USA, for screening, media reports indicated in Nairobi.

If the country has the capability of testing all other flu viruses what makes it impossible for them to test the swine flu? why do they have to transport the specimen to other countries?
